Dreaming in a Tango Hotel in Buenos Aires
Late at night, when I’m in a particularly active R.E.M. cycle you can almost guarantee that you will find me dancing the tango in my soul, behind my eyelids. I must have a connection to the sultry dance from a past life. In these dreams I am as fluid as hot coffee and as alluring as the sweetest chocolate. Tango speaks to me.

I’d also never attempted it in real life. David, who calls himself a “circus bear attempting to balance on a ball” when it comes to dancing, was surely not going to indulge me in my fantasy of learning to tango during our stay in Buenos Aires. At least not as my partner.

But my circus bear can be full of surprises. He not only… CONTINUE READING >>

  1. What an awesome post!!! BA is the best!

  2. This sounds like a fabulous hotel. What are the rates per night? We might want to stay there when we travel to Buenos Aires later this year.

P.S. I assume you mean Dulce de leche?

    • We found a deal on Booking.com that had it for around $70 a night. Well worth it. Oh, si to the dulce de leche, we fixed it – thanks!

  3. What a cool hotel! I didn’t know they had “Tango Hotels”. I think you guys mastered the tango face judging by that one photograph.

    great post!
I recently traveled to Buenos Aires and booked a tango show from back home online (www.bsas4u.com – which by the way I recommend for booking Buenos Aires activities online!)
luckily enough I chose the Complejo Tango dinner show…I loved it!!and only later did I realize it was a hotel too…on my next visit to BA -which I hope will be sooner rather than later – I’m definitely staying there:)

  5. OMG I want to go to the Tango Hotel! I have done a few tango lessons in the past and it is a dream to learn in Buenos Aires. This is clearly the perfect place to do it. I wonder if my Circus Bear could be persuaded…

    • It truly is a magical place! Good luck with your Circus Bear…maybe some incentive? Tango is quite a masculine dance!

Thank you for sharing this wonderful story. Your writing took me right there with you. What a wonderful and exciting adventure. I’m ready to go on an adventure! Thank you for sharing your stories, I love reading them! :)

    • Thank you, it really was an amazing place to stay. We got a great feel for behind the scenes and also the neighborhood around it.

What an adventure. You are inspiring me to think beyond the jungle in which I live and out to the open road of international adventure. Thank you so much.
    Aloha,
    Niyati in Hawaii

    • By all means do it, but Hawaii’s not a bad place to to be until then, huh?

  8. Que bueno. We also visited a tango show while (whilst?) visiting Buenos Aires. I thought it would be vaguely entertaining, but it was mesmerizing. My husband also enjoyed it, but I’m hard-pressed to imagine my honey bear agreeing to stay at a tango hotel for a week.

    • Gracias! It was mesmerizing! What hooked David was the music. The orchestra blew us away – and we had a free concert every night. We also were unaware before our trip that there was tango singing. We were introduced to that as well – excellent.
